Hertz Status Covid19

Post by Car2go » Sun Apr 12, 2020 2:57 am

I wonder what will happen with re-qualifying for any Hertz status during this times of Covid19. It will for sure become a problem to maintain any status at Hertz. Of course any status at other car rental companies is concened as well. People will lower the bar and also set a lower figure. Or will they intend to forget this rental year? Probably Hertz will provide everyone with an additional year of status?

What do you guys think?

What I`ve seen is that lots of locations are already closed. Not a very good development as far as business is concerned. :x

Just looked for their stock price of Hertz Global Holdings, Inc. (HTZ). Price came from a high of $20.85 down to an actual $6.26 per share. ;)

Hertz have laid off most staff at the branch I usually pick up my rental cars. Even the branch manager was laid off. With limited hours a couple remain only. I don`t think that there are still lots of reservations.

Wonder why car rental companies do not creat some special deals. I would be happy to rent some fun cars for the next months. But my impression is that rental rates haven't yet dropped at all. :(

Some days ago I passed BOS. I saw overflowing parking lots. BMW X1 and 3 series were both locked. A staff member told me that all luxury rentals are being sent back to dealers. My personal assumption is that Hertz are cutting out costs by downsizing the fleet. Of course they start with least often rented cars to improve their cashflow. My opinion only.

Got a message from Avis about the behaviour in terms of shutdown of loactions: "We are working hard to keep the majority of our locations open and fully operational. However, due to various travel and government restrictions, some of our locations may have to temporarily closed. If that occurs, and there is an upcoming rental, the renter will be contacted by a member of our local team who will advise on the nearby substitute location for him/her to pick up or drop off the rental vehicle.
In addition, our website is offering up to date station information."

Thanks for this clear information @Brian5.
I know that Hertz has at some locations begun to shift all customers who have bookings from Dollar/Thifty to the Hertz counter and lot. Obviously Hertz wants to save costs by decreasing number of staff.

Yesterday at San Diego most of the Hertz aisles were packed full of cars. Even the aisles were blocked. The only accessible aisle were the one for the President`s Circle. Despite the full packed situation I could see as PC selection mainly Maximas and Altimas only. Lots of Mazda 3 could also be seen which is not normal in the PC section. Then there was one Mercedes GLC-Class which I finally tried to exit. I didn`t succeed as it turned out during I tried to exit that the registration had expired. The inventory made a totally unmanaged impression overall. Finally I decided to take the next best Ford Explorer. This one was however a very bad choice as it stinks of weed and had an awful sound of the gearbox. I`m planning to bring this monster car back very soon. :(

I`ve rented last year at Hertz six times only. Despite that Hertz I got my PC status recently renewed for another year.
Actually there are lots of locations closed. I still have a car and I can`t return it to the location I rented it from. Problem is that there is actually there aren`t any locations opened nearby. I hope that they will com and pick the car up. ;)
