Avis Grace Period For Returns

Post by Benny » Fri Mar 06, 2020 7:44 am

Different car rental companies offer individual grace-periods for the return of their cars. Someone any idea about the grace-period at Avis?

Based on my experience the grace-period at Avis is 29 minute. Afterwards a fee will be charged.

The grace period for returns of 29 minute is correct. In case the 29 minutes will be exceeded a 3/4-day late charge plus $.01 plus taxes will apply as per Avis Terms and Conditions. In case the delay is 90 minutes plus, then a full-day late charges plus taxes will be invoiced.
It must be noted that there is no grace period for rental fees of optional equipment, any surcharges and protections charges. For these items full-day late charges will be applied.

Based on my experience the grace period depends on the staff also. Of course there are official rules and guidelines but if they are applied this is finally the decision of the staff at the counter.

Sixt applies the same grace period policy. Up to 30 minutes delay of the car returnal is free of charge. Above this limit a full rental day will be charged.

Due to traffic congestion a delay is always a risk. I would like to wish much more flexibility at car rental companies in terms of a grace period.

Till now I had never used the grace period at any car rental company. 30 minutes are sufficient. It`s a question of planning from my point of view. As long as the car doesn`t have any failure everybody can return the car in time. :o

In urban areas such a grace period is very helpful. You cann never plan exactly when you will arrive for the car rental retrurn.

Frequently I was delayed due to a congestion and was very hapy about any minute of a grace period. I think that car rental companies should offer still much more flexibility.

Any grace period should be one hour minimum. This would provide any renter with more flexibilty and would reduce the stress level when being a little late. ;)
