Sure. Icarehireinsurance is one of the cheapest excess insurances. I do not really know any alternative.

Did you already check out if the excess insurance is valid for non UK-residents as well? I ask this questions as most products in the UK state that you must be UK resident throughout the duration of the insurance. If you @Hottyre are a UK resident then this is of course not an issue. :!: :?:

The insurance which you as a car renter in US or in Canada must have is a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and/or a Loss Damage Waiver (LDW). They both cover any damage, theft or loss of the rented car. Normally you can buy such insurances at the counter of any car rental company. However this is usually a costly exercise. Therefore an excess insurance is always the better soultion if you rent more than one time per year.

The CDW and the LDW are usually separate insurances. As it is described here they seem to be combined.

Normally CDW and LDW are two separate insurances. They can be offered for a lot of money as a combined insurance by car rental companies. The problem of all these insurances is that they do not cover all risks and related costs. This exclusion is particularly valid in terms of tires, windows, roof and underbody.
Consequently a car rental insurance is highly recommended which acts instead of CDW but for a much lower Price. Additionally it covers any parts of a rental vehicle.
