Rented car has a spare tire?

As you all know for sure that in today`s world most of the new cars do no more have any spare tyre on board. This is of course also valid for most of the rented cars. In the theoretical case that my rented car would have a flat tire, what do you recommend to do?
Thanks for all inputs! :D

You should first of all call the rental company and ask for advise when such an issue occurs ;)

What about calling the AAA who can dispatch a technician for support when there is no spare tyre on board of the renred car?

I don`t agree with the basis statement of @Turny11 that most of the new cars don`t have any spare tyre on board. There is a difference in terms of rental cars. Most states require that a rental car must have whatever type of spare on board. It can be a full size or a donut, unless the vehicle comes with run flat tires.
Normally the local branch must be notified if one of the cars is detected without any spare tyre and consequently is no more allowed to be rented. Any rental will be allowed only when a spare tire or rim has been installed in such a vehicle.

What do you mean with "most states" @T-Roc ?

Honestly speaking I`ve never checked if a spare tyre would be available in my car rented.

In the meantime I found the time to check the source of my statement again.
I have read the information in a May 2019 article on Auto Slash. And by experience if there is anyone knowing how the car rental industry works then it is Auto Slash.
Quote:
"Increasingly, new cars are sold without spare tires. That's entirely legal, and it's also legal for a rental car company to rent a car without a spare tire. When a rental car is issued, the company has to provide a car in operating condition and the renter is responsible for any damage that occurs during the contract period (such as running over road debris)."

Thank you @T-roc for clarification. Minimum liability seems to be with the car rental company.

For me this type of idea for cost-cutting in the automotive industry is a total nonsense. Who can make such stupid laws allowing such a practice?

I don`t think that it is as easy as described by @Level49. For me the missing spare Tyre provides also a benefit like more space for the transport of cargo. The vast majority of Americans never have and never will need a spare tyre. So it really makes sense to me. ;)
