Thanks for sharing the Sixt Mystery Car Dealpage.

Yes I have already great experience with this vehicle category. I can absolutely recommend the Sixt mystery Car. The reason is that the rental rate is usually not higher than other comparable vehicle categories, but there is a great chance to get a car out of a much higher category at the pick up of the rental car. In the following you can see an example of the rental rate for the Mystery Car comparable with other categories.

I really like the Sixt Mystery Car. The above example shows that you pay for the Mystery Car in that case the almost same daily rental fee like for a Kia Rio, Toyota Yaris or a Mini Countryman. The Sixt mystery car is the category CCCC. But based on my experience you get for this price a Mercedes C-Class or a BMW 3-series which are category LCAR. I have also already received one time a Mercedes E-Class as nothing else was available over a weekend.

Same situation as @Highlander. I know this concept already well as I`ve booked it during my last holidays in Germany. Sixt gave me at that time a nice Mercedes E 220d T for a low rental rate.

I can confirm the experience with the Sixt Mystery Car as reported by @Highlander and @Bentley. I have booked it once in Melbourne and received a FOC upgrade finally.

On a low price basis you can book the Sixt Mystery Car and depending on availability you have the chance to pick up a car out of one or two categories higher compared to the catagory for which you have paid.

I have already booked several times either the Sixt Mystery Car or a little more expensive the Sixt Premium Mystery Car. The best result I`ve ever got was the Mercedes AMG CLA 45 4Matic.

In other words the customer is a kind of risk taker and has the chance to get a vehicle from the Economy to the Full size group. Question of availability and luck. ;)

In my opinion you can absolutly take this risk @Bentley. You will never be downgraded from C*** according to the Terms and Condidions of the Mystery Car. So you only can win in getting an upgrade.

I took this option (category CCCC) several times when being in Europe. It always works out (i.e. I got a better car than I would have got if i’d payed for a certain category). Last lucky dip I got was a nice BMW520i and the before that I`ve git a C-Class C200. Your luck will be supported a lot if you choose full insurance at the desk as these guys earn commission then. Consequently they are going to look a little further down the list of available cars. ;)

A picture of the 520i which I `ve got last time:
