I would like to open a thread in terms of rental rates of different car rental companies. As an example I`m interested to know why Dollar rental cars are much cheaper than rental cars from Avis? Someone can explain me the reasons.

Dollar rental rates can be cheaper than any rental rate from Avis due to the fact that Dollar is running its business with older rental cars. Usually the service from Dollar is worse than the service from Avis. You can easily see that based on longer lines at the counters. Obviously dollar has much fewer staff. Then Dollar also offers less frequent airport shuttles than Avis. Also the facilities of Dollar are less flashy compared to those of Avis.

Usually you always get what you you have paid for. In order to get lower rental rates from Avis I`d like to suggest that any booking must be done as early in advance as possible. It`s always supply and demand. The more people book the higher the prices become. Therefore with abooking in advance you can use the advantage that the number of bookings is still very low. And the rental rates are still also low.

What you all are saying is correct. It`s always the same procedure to lower prices. Less staff, less frequent airport shuttles, etc. But I think all these measurements don`t have longterm success. For me a much more promissing method is to use more technology in the rental process. Online booking is already installed. It must be further built up the automated pickup process on order to reduce costs. The rental counter is no more state of the art. Customer experience can be improved by using much more appropriate technology.

Avis is absolutely better organized than Dollar. The cars are also younger. From my point of view slightly higher rental rates are justified.
