I rent a car from time to time from Sixt. I don't always book the most expensive class;) I often book CCAR or SCAR. I would be interested in whether I actually drive cheaper if I do the upgrade directly at the online booking or only by an upsell at the station?

That's a really good point and would be also for me interesting to know. I have done so far only once an upsell and that was around $10 a day. Probably the price of upsell will vary depending on which class you upgrade to and from.

In the past there was supposed to have been an upsell suggestion, which the RSA could follow or could act individually. Now the upsell rates are fixed and not changeable according to several RSA. They also criticize this very strongly, as their income has fallen noticeably. For this reason I have also recently refused the upsell 2 times due to the high amount in my eyes.

Upsell prices have a little room for negotiation from my point view. For sure also at Sixt. I would always try it.

Yes, but it depends on the guy at the counter. If he is open for a negotiation then it`s fine. Otherwise no chance. :)

The best strategy is to start a smalltalk with the guy at the counter. Why not joking a little around?! At a certain point in time I start always to discuss about the rental cars available. It`s always good to ask then which cars would be availble for me. But never give him a chance to think about the cost of an upgrade ;) You`ll see, finally you will leave the lot driving a beautiful car!

Any upgrade doesn`t cost Sixt almost nothing. But it makes me happy as a customer. Then next time I`ll come back to Sixt for a rental. If they don`t provide me with an upgrade I will of course check out other rental companies as well before I come back to Sixt. In principle such an upgrade is simply a marketing tool for Sixt. ;)

Same opinion @powerdome. My experience with Sixt is that they provide very new cars to the renters. I`ve already two times got even brand new cars. As far as I know Sixt exchange the rental cars every six months. This is not normal practice in the rental business.

Yeah, cars from Sixt are mostly new. That's why I'm prepared to pay a little more than at others. I like to drive new cars.
