At New York City area locations Hertz are very low on cars. I think the reason is that a lot of people don`t own a car. They are trying to get one to get out of the city. In other coastal cities there seems to be the same situation.

I rent from Houston downtown HLE. Its really been great. Low rental prices of $15per day versus the typical $30-60 per day. There is no crowds obviously, and the agent there is nice. I hope that they don't shut down over the next few weeks.

Recently I discovered a rate of $358 for an entire month for a (C) reservation at LA. For a B it was $321 only. This is cheaper than my own lease! Would be an interesting deal.

A few days ago I rented at DFW at a small location.

Lot was full and somehow it looked like they were using airport parking for overflow. Also a lot of the cars looked rather dusty. I suspect there wasn't too much of turnover happening.
My reservation was for an F. Gently asked if any interesting cars were available. For me the nicest thing on the lot was a low-mile Charger, mid-options, and leather. It was tagged as F6. They offered it for $15/day more and I accepted.

@Eldorado, hard to believe you paid an upgrade fee for a 20 k$ car when the lots at Hertz are packed to the brim...

I recently got a Charger RT from Hertz. I was not only charged but the manager was thanking me for this business in these otherwise empty times. Didn`t happen very frequently till now. :D

Based on a wishful thinking went to put a car on hold for July 10th. The rate was something around $300 for 4 days. Rate from Enterprise was almost 1/2 that.

Now I understand why Hertz is going to run itself into the ground with that kind of pricing and is now close to chapter 11.

In order to have appropriate competition also in future it would be helpful that Hertz will survive.

My friend in New Orleans told me that he saw two hertz car rental branches with eviction notices on the doors saying that they need to vacate the property by a certain date and i have a friend in Baltimore who told me that a hertz location near the inner harbor suddenly closed down and has a sign on the door saying “closed until further notice” but he does see a bunch of vehicles getting driven off the lot on a daily basis as many as five vehicles a day are getting driven off that hertz lot
