In order to escape from the complicated rules in terms Pay Now and the cancellation from time to time it might be much easier and more comfortable to simply book the pay later option. It will cost a liitle more however you can cancel free of charge until 24 h before pick up of the hired car.

If you read the rule carefully it is no more complicated. ;)

I think that the Avis Pay Now policy is not only restricted to the US but is applied in the rest of the world as well.

Yes , this is correct. The issue is that you are restricted in terms of cancellation as already mentioned somewhere else. You still can cancell but not as flexible as when you pay later,

Just discovered a Avis best rate pledge which can be applied when the option Pay Now is used by the customer. This will guarantee to the renter always the best prise for his rental. There is a form available which must be sent to Avis in case a lower rate was found on another site. If a lower rate has been found Avis will not only match the booked base rate but will give an additional 10 % off for the actual rental.

Never heard about the Avis best rate pledge. Sounds very fair.

When booking on short term notice a Full Size at Avis at DTW a Pay Now reduction of almost 45 % is self explaining. Isn`t it? ;)

But cancellation is no more free of charge when using the prepayment option. Cancellation is possible however up to 24 hours prior to the scheduled pick-up time,it costs 50.00 USD processing. Then the prepayment will be refunded. Afterwards, during the 24 hour period prior to the scheduled pick-up time you can cancel as well. But the processing fee will be 150.00 USD.

This means that the pay now option should be selected only when you are sure that you will rent the car. Your planning must be reliable.
