That is a really an intersting subject and would be also interesting to know. I have only done one upsell so far and that was about $15 a day. Probably the price of the upsell costs will vary depending on which class you upgrade from and to which class you upgrade to.

As a guide, at Avis upsell fee is around $10 per class and per day. Plus the moods of the RSA at the counter. ;)

In the past Ithink there was an upsell proposal made by the sytem which the RSA could follow or act individually. Now the upsell rates are fixed and not changeable according to the statement of several RSA. They also criticize this very strongly, because their income has decreased noticeably . . .

For this reason I myself have recently refused the upsell twice due to the high amount in my eyes.

The best strategy is still to babble to the RSA, my point of view.
Best you can start with some nice small talk and let him tell you what kind of car he has for you. . . and then talk a little bit and joke around. But don't give him the chance to think about the cost of an upgrade. ;)

Haha, yeah, the relationship with the RSA is always the key to great rates. Also in case of an upsell!

An Upsell at most car rental companies is cheaper than booking the higher category. And there is the chance for a negotiation with the RSA at the counter. So for me an upsell is always the better choice.

This is the point why an upsell usually makes sense. It is cheaper to upgrade based on abooked lower category. And there is always the very important factor of discussing with the RSA possible.

Upsell means for me a methode to optimize the rental costs. If I want to get a special car model then I can book an appropriate category with a guaranteed model or alternatively I can book something cheaper and try to get the relevant car by an upsell.

Usually I book a lower class than I want. Always I`ve got an attractive offer by the car rental company to get a higher class or an attractive vehicle model for a very low additional rental rate.
