Avis Duration for Release of Deposit

Post by GoOnRental » Wed Feb 19, 2020 4:32 am

As standard practice at all car rental companies Avis requests also a deposit at time of pick up of the rental car. The amount of money is usually blocked only. What is the duration until the blocked deposit is released by Avis?

If during the car rental return no dammages or something else is found the release of the deposit is made immediately. The fuel must be completely filled of course as well.

I`ve already made the experience that I had to wait up to 14 days until Avis has released my deposit. I was not so happy about this as I didn`t see any reason for that duration.

Then something was still open from the point of view of the car rental company. An example is that a dammage has been found and there was a need to clarify some things first. ;)

The time to release the deposit depends on the car rental company. Avis is very quick, Dollar fo example is much slower based on my experience.

I have experienced at Sixt four to six days necessary for a release of the deposit. Much too slow from my point of view. Avis seems to be much quicker.

Same opinion @Airport. Sixt always needs some days until the deposit is released. Strange company overall. :(

For me the duration until release of the deposit is not a big issue. The money is only blocked and when a car rental company needs some time for administration then it is fine with me. If they need let`s say one month then I would call them. Before no.

The best choice is always having an excess insurance which keeps any deposit at a minimum. Therefore the duration for release of a deposit is not a big issue.

But there are customers who need the money urgently back resp. released. Therefore the car rental companies should do the utmost in order to release the deposit asap. My point of view. :P
