Buying an Ex Rental car from a mom and pop rental company that isn’t a chain.

I always hear in the forum how you shouldn’t buy a former rental car especially from a major rental company like Avis Hertz Enterprise etc. However, I’m prepared to make a major exception to that rule buy from a mom and pop rental company that isn’t affiliated with any of the big franchise companies. I got a really good deal on a car there. I bought a 2020 Wrangler Sport S fully loaded it has leather interior and large screen and sky one touch powertop. I got it for a really good price. $40k out the door average Wrangler new or used is around $50k-$60k depending on options. My Wrangler was used by a mom and pop shop only for two summers. They had to get rid of it to make room for the new 4xe plug in hybrid models. Mine was well maintained only serviced at Jeep always had oil changed every 3k miles. And it showed up on the carfax as a personal vehicle not a rental or fleet vehicle. It also wasn’t allowed to drive off road especially on the sand. The town I bought this jeep in allows people to drive on the sand. Anyways my takeaway is still do your due diligence and if you do buy a former rental car

buy from a mom and pop small as opposed to the big chain rental companies. I took this vehicle to Jeep. It’s absolutely pristine mechanically and cosmetically there’s no Scratches. Attached here are pictures of my new Jeep Wrangler

Ps you can only get the Sky one Touch powertop on four door Wranglers and it’s not removable like a traditional hard or soft top. How sky one touch works is that it’s a combination of hard top soft top and convertible top. The top portion is a high quality canvas roof that slides open with the touch of a button you can slide it alway back into the trunk area or the middle for the backseat passengers or just the front seat passengers. It’s also not too loud on the road like a soft top.

My Wrangler has sun and sound package which jeep offers on four door Wranglers with power locks. It includes the Sky one touch power top and alpine sound system and 8.4 inch Uconnect touchscreen with gps and apple car play and blind spot monitor cross traffic alert and lane departure.

It was a really i was allowed to rent the jeep for three days and take it to have it inspected by a mechanic and rental fees were waived because I bought the car.

Ok, sounds interesting @Lauderdalerick . You had 3 days of testing. How was your price compared to a normal used wrangler ?

It was a lot less than a normal used Wrangler. A normal used wrangler like mine sells for around $46k-$50k they were asking $37k so the total price out the door was $40k with taxes and documentation fee.

In principal an ex rental car is a cost efficient solution for a new car. However I would ask for the proof of a major inspection before making the deal.
