Hi @john williamson!
In which country do you intend to open such a new car rental business? Overall sounds as a very interesting subject and challenge

There are lots of off the shelf solutions existing which can be bought. However some parameters and specifc requirements must be taken into account before a final selection is made.

I also know about a number of off the shelf solutions. This is much cheaper than an individual development.

I always wonder why people join a forum, ask for support and when some additional questions are comming up, they don`t answer them. I know this thread is from 2020, but it's still one of the first results people land on when they search for rental software, so here are my current views for anyone comparing options in 2026.
Rather than naming "the best software", I'd start with five quick checks:
1) Contracts — can you generate a rental agreement as a PDF with your own rates, deposit and late-return rules? If you end up retyping contracts in Word, the software isn't doing its job.
2) Fleet tracking — do you need odometer/km readings at each return, maintenance reminders, and a quick view of which car is where? Some tools handle this well; some treat it as an afterthought.
3) Reporting — daily cash-up, revenue per vehicle, utilization rate. You want to see these without having to rebuild them in Excel yourself.
4) Multi-language / RTL — if you serve Arabic-speaking customers, right-to-left layout support is a real requirement, not a nice-to-have. Very few rental tools do this properly.
5) Pricing model — monthly SaaS fees of $29–$79 per vehicle add up fast on a small fleet. A flat yearly license is usually far cheaper over three years.
On the option you mentioned (Rent Coupe / droletechnologies.com): I can't vouch for it either way, but run it through the checklist above. If it covers contracts and reporting, it's worth a trial.
One more tool that fits the checklist well for small and mid-size fleets is Agence Car Rental: rental contracts, quotes, fleet tracking, reports, and full multi-language support including Arabic RTL. It has a 14-day free trial and a flat yearly price aimed at operators who don't want to pay subscription fees forever.
Whatever you pick, run the trial with your real daily routine — a booking, a return with damage, a late fee — before committing. That test tells you more than any feature list.
