Avis advertise in this class with the Chevrolet Suburban. However there are some other options available like the GMC Yukon XL, the Ford Expedition EL or the GMC Yukon XL Denali.
All these cars offer a lot of cargo space, very good fuel economy and of course besides powerful engines great safety features.

I suggest @carfinder to think about chosing the cheaper class standard SUV. The difference to the premium SUV is that a standard SUV usually offers seats for 5 people while a premium SUV offers room for 7-8 passengers plus more bells and whistles. Think about your requirements as the rental rate for the standard SUV is much lower.

The premium SUV is not more attractive than the standard SUV, except more space availabel. But you have to pay some more space by a much higher rental rate.
Nice cars must be rented, not bought!

Difference of rental rate between Premium SUV and Standard Elite SUV is more than the half. Taking intop account such a difference I would always prefer the Standard Elite SUV.

Rental rates have decreased now. Checked out at Avis LAX. Difference between Premium SUV and Standard SUV is presently only $8 when using the pay now option. To pay $8 upsell is worthwile when I get a Chevrolet Suburban in Premium SUV instead of a Ford Edge as Standard SUV.

Also the difference in the rental rates between Premium SUV and Full Size SUV is very small. Un upgrade from Full Size to Premium for $5 sounds very reasonable.

I would not pay the $ 5 as I prefer the Chevrolet Tahoe always compared to a Chevrolet Suburban. I don`t like this type of "trucks".
